Spicy Sweet Spare Rib Rub
Rating (0 Rated)
This is one tasty dry rub that pairs beautifully with most any BBQ sauce. If you like a little less kick, decrease or omit the cayenne pepper. Since this rub features brown sugar, it works best in ‘low and slow’ cooking applications so it doesn’t char. Store any leftover rub, tightly covered, in a dark place. It will keep for about 4 months.

Ingredients

1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cup Frontier smoked paprika
1 tablespoon Frontier alder smoked salt
1/2 tablespoon Frontier black pepper
1/2 tablespoon Frontier white pepper
1/2 tablespoon Frontier garlic powder
1/2 tablespoon Frontier onion powder
1/2 teaspoon Frontier cayenne pepper, or to taste
4 pounds St. Louis-style pork ribs
2 cups of your favorite BBQ sauce

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 275 degrees.
2. Combine all dry rub ingredients in a small bowl.
3. Apply rub evenly over all sides of ribs, then wrap ribs very tightly in double layer of aluminum foil (shiny side out) and place on cooking sheet with sides – you’ll need it to catch all the drips!
4. Bake for 2 1/2 – 3 hours, or until meat shrinks from bone.
5. Finish ribs on the grill. Brush barbecue sauce on each side and grill over medium heat for about 5 minutes per side or until the sauce caramelizes.
