Cyclosporiasis Outbreak
Cyclosporiasis Outbreak
Last updated: July 19, 2026
There is a nationwide outbreak of Cyclospora, a parasite that can cause intestinal illness. Federal health officials (FDA and CDC) are investigating the source. One identified source is shredded iceberg lettuce supplied to Taco Bell from Mexico. The investigation is ongoing. We will continue to monitor the situation.
QUICK FACTS
Outpost does NOT carry the shredded iceberg lettuce identified by the FDA
Outpost carries Earthbound Farm salad mixes (owned by Taylor Farms), but no Taylor Farms branded salads or kits have been linked to this outbreak
Both conventional and organic produce can potentially become contaminated; organic is not automatically risk-free
Organic and local produce is a great choice when available, but customers should follow safe food handling practices
Kitchen Safety Protocol
At home, it is always good practice to use food safety precautions when preparing fresh foods. The FDC and CDC recommend the following food handling protocol:
- Wash fresh produce under running water
- Rinse fresh herbs well
- Wash hands before and after preparing produce
- Clean cutting boards and utensils
- Cook vegetables when appropriate
Contact a Healthcare Provider
