FEATURED JOB — Central Kitchen Department Assistant

Yiftach Drori is a world traveler who arrived in Milwaukee via Israel about four years ago and has fallen in love with his job as Department Assistant in Bay View’s Central Kitchen. Did you know that behind the bulk department and dairy at Bay View exists an entirely different Outpost where bakers and cooks turn out Outpost’s amazing meals, pies, salads, desserts and more? And it’s all made from scratch? Yiftach is one of the unsung heroes who makes it all happen.

What’s it like working at Outpost?

“Fun. I love it. First of all there is an amount of pressure and an amount of frustration like anywhere else but I love the work and personally most of the people here I really, really love.”

How did you find out about the job?

“Sometimes you make a good accident. My brother took me to the Outpost in Mequon because he needed some granola and I asked them if they needed some employees and the café manager gave me a card to email human resources. We had a good conversation and there was an opening here as an assistant in the central kitchen and I got here and I just really liked it. I was really impressed by a lot of things during orientation and the way human resources treats employees.”

What’s it like coming back into the workforce?

“It’s funny because some of the younger guys don’t really know how to appreciate it. I tell them, ‘If you came in through an open door you can go out through the same door nobody will tell you anything but if you find a better place I’d like to know where it is and apply also.’ Nobody has returned to me yet.”

Do you see yourself staying here?

"My plans were originally to move with my family to Colorado but since then I’ve found this job and I really like it so I’m 60 and I’ll stay here until retirement. I saw a new position opening for a café trainer and I feel in a few years I’d apply but for right now I am so happy here in the central kitchen. I also like the fact that I can advance within the company and in a few years if that’s what I want I will have the support to do that."
