Basic Apple Sauce

What could be more American than homemade applesauce? It's so easy - you'll be amazed. Instead of maple syrup, try spreading fresh made apple sauce on your buttermilk pancakes. Or serve along with your favorite pork dish as a condiment. Either way you go, you'll be thrilled with the results of this easy recipe.
makes 5 cups

Ingredients

10 medium apples (any kind except Red Delicious)
1 tablespoon water, apple juice or lemon juice
Sugar to taste, if desired
1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Basic Apple Sauce

Directions

Get ready because here's where it gets super easy:
  1. Peel, core and cut apples into chunks. In a large pot over medium-high heat add apples, water and sugar. Cook until apples are very soft, stirring occasionally to keep from sticking and burning. Add the cinnamon and remove from the heat.
  2. Mash baked apples with a potato masher, food processor or blender until desired consistency.
