Why do you want to be on the Outpost Natural Foods Board of Directors?
Being an owner of Outpost was my first introduction to being a part of the Milwaukee community dedicated to something I value – good and quality food and people. It was a very welcoming community over 20 years ago when I joined and the board embodies this same spirit and commitment to service. Serving on the board in the past three years has been an honoring and humbling experience of working and learning with an incredible, talented and dedicated group of individuals from this community. I am excited to continue supporting the co-op in achieving its future goals in innovative and sustainable ways that serves the greater Milwaukee area.
What professional skills do you bring to a Board position of a $50 million business?
My professional background includes over five years of experience working in a local non-profit agency providing a range of services in the greater Milwaukee area; two years of experience as an actuarial analyst at an insurance company, over five years providing care and support to individuals and families struggling with mental health issues, obtaining an MBA and currently working on a second master’s degree in counseling psychology. I am able to apply my analytic skills and people skills in better understanding the whole picture as well as communicate effectively as a team player and leader.
Please describe how you would contribute to the diversity, equity, and inclusivity of the board.
As I mentioned earlier, it’s been an honor to be part of an incredibly dynamic board of individuals that bring a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience to the co-op. This is a credit to the greater community of Outpost owners and their dedication to the mission of the co-op. What I have learned is that being true to oneself helps to appreciate what others have to contribute and fosters a community that respects diverse points of views, skills, individuals and promotes equity, inclusion and justice.
Describe your prior involvement with community organizations and/or cooperatives.
My involvement in the community began with my first job after college working in the non-profit sector serving and assisting small local business with microlending services to working in food service providing free meals to daycares, afterschool programs and lunches in the parks during summer. I also worked with local organizations in supporting immigrant families as they transitioned to living in the Milwaukee area. I am passionate about supporting people struggling with mental health issues and have served on the Outpost Board for the past three years.
