Outpost's Board of Directors Celebrates Our Cooperative Community

Board Beet
By Your Board on October 27, 2020

Co-op Month has been celebrated annually in October across the United States for more than half a century. It is a time for cooperative businesses to reflect on their shared principles and to educate others about the value of belonging to a cooperative.

This year’s Coop Month theme focused on diversity, equity and inclusion highlighting how co-ops are creating diverse, equitable and inclusive workplaces and boards, and how co-ops can better meet the needs of communities that have been excluded from economic participation and advancement.

Outpost Natural Foods’ Global Ends statement addresses these specifically, with the mission as “Outpost Natural Foods exists so that our owners have a healthy, diverse and sustainable community.” And further defines those Ends as “The owners have a sense of connectedness, belonging and fellowship.”

The Outpost Board of Directors works throughout the year, collaborating extensively with general operations to ensure the Board’s Ends are in line with the Co-op overall, working to find ways to actively engage with our owners and represent their interests in the long term success of the co-op and identifying the best candidates for the board to continue this good work into perpetuity.

As owners, we encourage you to continue to participate! Bring your constructive feedback to the stores and through the website. Make suggestions for ways to improve your experience. Come to a board meeting and decide if you’d like to be a board member and remember to VOTE for your board members. Most importantly, continue to shop and be a part of this cooperative community that represents so much to all of us.
