Teens Grow Greens

Just about every country home had a kitchen garden where herbs and commonly used fruits and vegetables were planted for easy access and use by the home cook. We decided to plant our own kitchen garden of raised beds located  along the southeast corner of our Mequon store and property line. Heirloom tomatoes, peppers, herbs - all to be used by our Mequon kitchen staff for some mighty tasty deli items like our stone hearth pizzas!

We are fortunate to have some of our kitchen garden seedlings grown by a group of talented young people who are a part of Teens Grow Greens, a paid internship program of We Grow Greens. We Grow Greens is a local non-profit organization whose vision is to empower and transform teenagers into leaders through real life skills, self discovery, student-driven projects and learning better by being healthy. Along the way they learn professional and leadership skills through growing and cooking food, as well as through teamwork and community service.

These beds were installed by our Community Partner friends at Victory Garden Initiative. The soil and compost to fill them was brought in via our awesome partnership with Elyve and Sanimax/The Farms composting programs.
