The newest Outpost Coop location will open in Mequon on Monday, May 12.

For over 600 owners in the Ozaukee County area, who previously made trips to one or more of our urban Milwaukee locations for groceries and supplements, the new location provides easier access to local, sustainable food. And we expect ownership to grow by 500+ owners in the first week of business. That’s over 1,000 people with access to great, healthy food!

Additionally, the new store offers numerous benefits to the community of Mequon in which it is located, including the addition of 80 part- and full-time jobs for area workers.

As an Outpost owner and Board member, I’m proud of the work that has been done to get the Mequon store up and running.  I’m also proud that profits from this new endeavor – as well as overall growth in all of our stores – will ensure that we’re able to make an even bigger difference in our efforts to increase  access to fresh, clean food to EVERYONE in the greater Milwaukee area.

Here’s a snapshot of some of the amazing things about the new store.

The new store is GREEN.

Outpost is working towards Gold Level LEED certification for the new store, which means we made extra special efforts with how we approached the building.
•    Skylights, environmentally safe finishes and materials, recycled and repurposed materials and energy efficient equipment all contribute to the mix.
•    The store will utilize a state-of-the-art CFC-free refrigeration system for its cold goods.
•    There is permeable paving in place along walkways, part of the parking lot, and around the perimeter of the store to promote reabsorption of rain water. Rain gardens planted this summer will also contribute to a similar goal.
•    Storm water management on the property include cisterns to capture and save rainwater.
•    An innovative process, created by S&K Plumbing, will be used to pump and repurpose wastewater from the reverse osmosis water purification system for use in flushing bathroom toilets.
•    There is a hybrid car plug-in station on the west side of the building
•    Countless repurposed materials have been used in construction – including the Lannon stone that was reclaimed from the house on the property.

All of these initiatives feed into Outpost’s goal of reducing its carbon footprint by 50% and fulfilling the responsibility to preserve the environment for future generations.

The new store is DELICIOUS.

The new store will also offer a wide range of all the great products Outpost owners have grown to know and love, as well as exciting new offerings at our Fork Café, including:
•    A Woodstone pizza oven
•    House-baked New York bagels with a variety of flavored Outpost signature smears
•    WiscoPop soda, local beer and kombucha on tap
•    Sliced deli lunchmeats

Will you be a frequent shopper at the Mequon store?  What are you most looking forward to seeing/doing/tasting at the new location?
