Patricia McFarland

As the director of the Milwaukee Area Technical college’s Children’s Center, I have spent decades training students to enter the field of Early childhood Education. As part of that experience and training, I have made nutrition an emphasis in building better brains as we nurture children. One of my favorite Early childhood Classes is Nutrition for Children. Outpost has been an example of what can be done to improve our lives. I’m excited about the possibility of bringing my ideas about children’s nutrition to the Outpost Board. I have extensive experience working on Community Boards that deal with large budgets. Having served for 12 years, I have also been the president of the board--Community Shares of Greater Milwaukee (CSGM).

Serving on the board of Outpost is a natural fit. My husband and I have been owners since the early '80s and I raised my children with a natural foods lifestyle. My husband, Nick Bokas, is a public defender and we share a passion for social justice. My daughter, Kiara, is a horticulturalist. My son, Gibson, serves on the board of Riverwest Food Co-op, has worked with volunteer recruitment for ten years and helped start the Riverwest Public House co-op. We enjoy shopping with and for our grandchildren at Outpost. Find us dining at our neighborhood Outpost once a day--visiting with friends and making wise food choices. In addition to activism, we enjoy dancing, and sailing with another co-op --Milwaukee Community Sailing Center.
