Five candidates are running for three open spots on Outpost's Board of Directors. The election runs the month of October and all current Outpost owners can vote, either online or by stopping at a Customer Service Desk for a ballot. Between now and the end of October, we'll be publishing each candidate's statement here on the Sounding Board blog. You may also find all five statements here.

Brian Waterman - attorney

As someone who considers himself to be service-oriented, Outpost’s extraordinary dedication to our community resonates with me. Whether it is providing quality natural foods to shoppers, supporting small local food producers, or devoting resources to charitable causes, I have always been impressed with the many positive ways Outpost impacts our community. When presented with the idea of running for a seat on Outpost’s Board, I knew it would be a fantastic opportunity to use my experience in the areas of business, law, food and community service to assist in the governance of an organization that does so much good.

I believe my experience, knowledge and skills could be of significant use to the Outpost Board. As a labor and employment attorney, I have considerable knowledge in the area of human resources, as well as a general familiarity with the law in several other areas. I believe my experience helping employers to identify, evaluate and solve their problems could be a great asset to Outpost. I also have experience related to the food industry. Not only have I been involved with the operation and development of my wife’s small food production business, but I serve as the president of the newly formed Wisconsin Artisan Food Producers Association (WAFPA). This group’s mission is to promote, advocate for, and support artisan food and beverage producers throughout Wisconsin. With regard to prior board experience, in addition to serving as president of WAFPA, for several years I served on the Board of Local First Milwaukee (formerly Our Milwaukee), a local business alliance founded by Outpost and others. I believe my dedication to community service would also make me a good fit for Outpost’s Board. I served in the United States Army Reserve as a Military Intelligence Analyst for eight years. Additionally, I have devoted time to working at Marquette University’s legal clinic, providing free legal assistance to veterans. I have also served on the fundraising committee of Hope Center, an organization in Waukesha, Wisconsin committed to serving those in need.
