Educational couch potato-ing?

Postscript
Food, Love and Policy By Unknown #1 on December 1, 2010

It's winter. In Wisconsin. Some of us pull out the snow shoes or skis and stay active during the frozen months. But some of us are much more prone to hibernating. I figure if I am going to be a couch potato, I might as well be a well-educated and entertained couch potato. The Planet Green channel (go to cable channel 134 if you have Time Warner Cable in Milwaukee) offers a host of eco-themed documentaries this fall and winter. You'll emerge in the spring with a whole lot to say, and maybe a few lifestyle changes under your (expanded) belt.

Included in the line-up are classics such as King Corn and Supersize Me and new arrival No Impact Man. But other documentaries cover topics as fascinating and diverse as the Iditarod dog sled race, bee colony collapse disorder, the coal industry, big oil, Greenpeace and urban farming.

Get the full line-up here.

Yes, winter is here, I do unwind a bit, but it always Gardening Season--inside for the winter. Time to cozy up to read the seed catalogs and plan for next season, catching up on other reading as well. I also need to sit under the full spectrum lights in the basement where I have some plants growing under them, lots of impatiens that bloom all winter. I do take time off just to rest up after a busy growing season. I also like discovery channel as well as nature videos. A visit to the Tropical Dome in Milw.here always helps. After the winter soltice, starting in Jan. the days start getting longer and brighter until finally spring. Diane Olson Schmidt. LaceWing Gardening Services.
