Made in Milwaukee

Postscript
Food, Love and Policy By Unknown #2 on August 24, 2010
With 11 days to go and counting, I'm getting pretty excited about the Made in Milwaukee event set for Saturday Sept. 4 at Cathedral Square. This looks to be a celebration of all things local on a pretty impressive scale.

Kicking off with the East Town Farmer's Market at 8:30 a.m., the event will follow up with coffee tastings from Anodyne, Stone Creek, Valentine and Alterra ... which should help parents rev up in time for the 10 a.m. kids fair, featuring a stingray touch-tank from Discovery World, arts and craft projects and even an urban farming project, courtesy of the good people at Sweetwater Organics.

Local businesses will be on hand to sell their wares, from Bella & Boo Organics to Rishi Tea, Conscious Bath Company and more. I'm spotting not only a "local" theme, but a fairly green one, too.

Artists will be on hand, too, selling handmade crafts, paintings, metalwork and other goodly items. And finally, at noon, the music begins with many a local band jumping onto the stage. Kings Go Forth, Rusty Ps, De La Buena, The Wildbirds and plenty more.

And yes, there will be beer.

Aside from the shopping and bumping into friends and neighbors, I am most looking forward to getting my hands on the hot-off-the-presses Milwaukee Film Festival brochure. They're making us wait until this day to find out the full lineup of films, and this is the time and place they are choosing to let the cat out of the proverbial bag.
