New chemicals which can mask salty or sweet flavors in your mouth might already be in food you're eating - without you knowing it.
The new chemicals affect the taste receptors on your tongue, which allows companies to reduce the sodium or sugar levels in their products without significantly altering how the final product tastes.

The chemical company has already struck deals with some of the biggest food manufacturers in the world - without needing FDA approval. The company reportedly conducted a three-month clinical study on lab rats to determine the safety of the chemicals.
Lower sodium and sugar levels are a worthy goal for prepared foods, but it would be nice if consumers were told just how the reductions were made -and just what was in the foods they're eating. Unfortunately, the Feds haven't deemed that sort of labeling much of a priority
