Agreement brings Growing Power to cemetery

Food, Love and Policy By Unknown #2 on June 2, 2009
The greenhouses at Forest Home Cemetery on Milwaukee's south side have laid dormant for a decade because they were too expensive to heat in the winter. If you're wondering why a cemetery has greenhouses in the first place, think flowers.

A new arrangement (no pun intended) makes the greenhouses available to Growing Power, giving the non-profit another venue for its veggies, and the once-empty greenhouses a new lease on life.
The Journal Sentinel reports.
While we're on the subject of Growing Power, don't forget the Milwaukee premiere of the food-bizz movie Fresh, airing this Thursday, 6 p.m. at Discovery World. The documentary features Will Allen and a portion of the proceeds will go to his non-profit.
