When I was a kid, my family drove to upstate New York to an amusement park called The North Pole. The main attraction was Santa's Workshop, a handful of colorful, cartoonish exhibits and numerous gift shops. The thing I remember most about our visit to The North Pole was the actual pole - a 6 or 7 foot tall pole made of ice, which stood at the entrance year round, no matter the season or air temperature.
