Jeff and Eileen McCutchen wanted to settle down and give their six children a place to develop some roots.
After 18 years of moving around the country with the U.S. Navy, the couple — Jeff, a retired navy chef, and Eileen, a homemaker — figured they owed their children something.
After moving 18 times in 18 years of marriage, they bought some land in northern Wisconsin, where they started a homestead. It has grown into Angel Acres Farm, a certified organic, sustainable farm, where the McCutchens raise pork, poultry and beef on 105 acres of rolling farmland.
The farm is located near Mason, Wis., south of Ashland. The animals at Angel Acres Farm are pasture-raised, including the 100-percent Berkshire pork, a heritage breed that originated in England.
“(Our pork) We spent a great deal of time working on getting the best breeding stock to insure the best product. We have control of it from conception to table. We know how it was farrowed. (We know) the conditions they live in and (the) care taken to make sure the pigs lead as carefree and stress-free a life as possible."
