It all began back in the 1970s, just like Outpost. Pete and Laura Wakeman were just a couple of college kids who baked whole grain bread from scratch and sold it to help pay their tuition at Cornell University.
They married in 1975 and hiked the entire north-south length of Montana. They stayed in Montana and established the first Great Harvest Bakery in Great Falls.
Since that time, Great Harvest Bread Co. has grown into the nation’s first family of independently owned and operated whole grain bread bakeries with more than 200 stores throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.
Jon and Sara Cerny fired up the ovens at their store in Elm Grove in October 2010. The Cernys purchased the franchise and Jon’s Great Harvest Bread Co. has been serving up delicious bread to loyal customers ever since.
In addition to wonderful whole grain breads, Outpost carries whole-wheat pizza crusts that Jon and his staff make from wheat that they grind fresh at the bakery. You won’t find a fresher product, unless you make it yourself. Give yourself a break and let Great Harvest do the work for you.
